This was the race that changed my life forever! in 2016 I decided to jump into my first ever Spartan race. Holy smokers batman, I really didn't understand how much your mindset play a key role in pushing through. I was about 1 hour into the race and as I came to the long line awaiting the sand bag carry. Unfortunately for some they were short on sand bags and it created a bottle neck line awaiting a turn at the obstetrical. As I approached the line I felt my stomach go on completely empty, the banana and oatmeal along with a store bought off brand protein bar had already ran the course of fueling me in the first hour of the race. I was leaning over because of the pain of hunger that over came me when I heard a voice from behind asking me if I was ok? I turned and saw a lady whom I knew to be a friend of my sisters and replied back, I think I'm going to have to walk off the course, I'm so hungry! This women whom I found out later her name was Frances, ripped a green packet from the inside of her sports bra and said in a stern voice "eat this"! I reluctantly asked what it was and she replied back "it's food, eat it!" So I ate half the pack, thanked her then proceeded to grab my bag heading up the steep switch back with my 20 pound sand bag. By the time I had made it down the other side it felt as if someone had refueled my body with premium gas that you put into your car for optimal performance. 4 hours later I jumped across the fire at the finish line and finished my first Spartan race. I'm forever grateful to my sister that inspired me to do a spartan race and to Frances for not only sharing her food packet with me but also reaching out to me after I had returned home to California. I later found out that she was with a global solutions based company that provided help with healthy nutrition on the go! What!! it was too good to be true, I then made the decision to invest in myself for the first time ever in my life without feeling mom guilt or caring what anyone else thought. Little did I know my life was completely changed 30 days from the day I said yes to taking care of me.
